January 6th, 2018. First missed clue: Dan was dressed more snazzy than usual for a casual brunch. Second and largest missed clue: Dan didn’t rush me in the morning. Heck, I think he may have even told me to take my time getting ready! We were headed to brunch in LIC on what was probably the coldest day in the last century. Despite this, we realized that we had only ever strolled the LIC waterfront by night- so a quick day stroll was in order! My clumsy efforts to force a hat on his bare head distracted me from what I later realized was a nervous Dan looking around for our photographer friend. He asked me to take a photo the skyline and of us, and as I slowly panned the camera to my left- there he was, on one knee, asking me to be his wife and to share the rest of our lives together. I said yes.
They met up at a 24 hour Baskin Robbins in Queens. Valery waddled out of her car with a giant knee brace on, leaving her crutches behind, and Dan didnt judge. He ordered a small kids sundae and she, naturally, had a large. They spent the next 4 hours talking- about what, they cant recall. But what they do remember, is that they both knew this night was the beginning of something real.
