Things To Do

The following are a list of day trips:

San José Central Market

Opening in 1880, this classic market is one of the oldest and most famous landmarks in the capital. Centrally located and easily accessible, this market offers everything from food to clothing. If you are interested in bringing home some souvenirs, this is the place! Please be careful with your belongings in this area. Keep wallets and phones in your front pocket.

Parque Nacional Volcán Poás / Poás Volcano National Park

Poás, Provincia de Alajuela, Costa Rica

This is a beautiful and unique park located by the Poás Volcano. With several walking trails and activities, this is a great place to visit and boasts the unique green-water crater lake, one of Costa Rica's most distinguishable natural features. The park is about 30 miles outside of the city and can take anywhere from 1-3 hours to reach depending on traffic, so we recommend making this a full-day trip.

Irazú Volcano National Park

Provincia de Cartago, Costa Rica

Standing at 11,260 feet above sea level, this is the highest volcano in Costa Rica. Located less than 90 minutes from San Jose, this makes for a good day trip to see one of the country's many volcanoes.

Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles/Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels

Calle 1, Cartago, Provincia de Cartago, Costa Rica

The Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles is a Roman Catholic basilica in Costa Rica. Located in the city of Cartago and dedicated to the Virgen de los Ángeles, the basilica was built in 1639 and partially destroyed by an earthquake.

Coffee Tour

Discover the original Costa Rican coffee tour where over 30 years of coffee roasting expertise come to life. Immerse yourself in the rich history and flavors of coffee on the tour that started it all, offering an authentic journey into Costa Rica's coffee culture and heritage.

Museo Nacional De Costa Rica

The National Museum of Costa Rica invites you to learn about the cultural and natural history of Costa Ricans, from pre-Columbian times to the present day. Its exhibition halls display the varied collections in the fields of national history, archaeology and natural history, which for 135 years has made it the oldest in the country. It holds temporary exhibitions on artistic and cultural themes and has a varied agenda of activities throughout the year.

La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park

Alajuela Province, Costa Rica

The waterfall is located immediately alongside Route 126. The River La Paz forms the waterfall after traversing 8 kilometres (5 mi) of volcanic terrain, and then continues through the rainforest of the eastern side of Poás Volcano. A short path leads behind the waterfall, where a small shrine had been located. Upstream from the waterfall is La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a hotel and park, where visitors can observe many different species of local wildlife.
