Our Story

OUR STORY Valerie Fitzgerald grew up in Midlothian Texas. While moving throughout central and northern Texas, she ended up back in Midlothian to finish and graduate from high school. Three years later, having a daughter who is now 15, life moved them from place to place, finally settling in east Texas. During this time, she attended college gaining some valuable knowledge, ending with a certificate from the EMT program. She is currently studying to take her exam and start her dream of helping people in their most vulnerable states. Jarod Lavergne grew up in Mobile Alabama. During this time, he attended military schools in his high school years. Once gaining a GED he moved away from his hometown and explored Texas then the east coast. Eventually he ended up back in east Texas to settle down. Deciding to become a nurse in 2018, he is finally a psychiatric nurse and following his dreams. He is a father of an interesting 12-year-old daughter who keeps him on his toes especially his wonderful and amazing “pinky toe.” Valerie and Jarod met at the nut house AKA Rusk State Hospital in 2021. They were not patients but fit in very well. Valerie was a mental health tech while Jarod was a nurse. Everyone is told that you should not be looking or trying to find love at the nut house because crazy people are everywhere without a status at Walmart. The Lord knows that is true they said but these two people found something special in one another right between isle schizophrenia and Bi-Polar Court. In all seriousness neither one was looking for love as it was the furthest thing from their minds. At some point Jarod gathered the courage and asked Valerie out. Turns out Valerie was going to show Jarod what he had in store for the rest of their lives. The first date was at a Mexican restaurant in Palestine. Both girls went with Valerie and Jarod for this experience. The girls acted like they had known each other for years, giggling and talking the whole time. Little did Jarod know then, with liking Mexican food here and there, Mexican food in the future would be requested every day all most if Valerie’s daughter was asked what she wanted. The date ended with the promise of another one to come. The rest is history. With such wonderful times and memories in our past and wanting to create so many more, Jarod decided that Valerie was his soulmate and he wanted to be by her side throughout life. On November 23,2021 Jarod proposed in the simplest of ways. On day at home with pizza ordered for dinner and “The Ring’ in pocket Jarod sat in his chair and asked Valerie for a piece of pepperoni pizza. Once the magical slice arrived and they talked, Jarod so delicately tore a hole in the center of a piece of pepperoni off the pizza. While proposing and wanting to slide it on her finger, Valerie could not contain herself and started laughing at the hard thought process that Jarod intended to surprise her with. Valerie claimed that it would get all moldy and besides it tore. Without delay and Valerie distracted Jarod slipped out the “BOX” and Valerie started to be what appeared to be overwhelmed with joy. Of course, she said yes because everyone gets to read this. With all of this said, we cannot wait to celebrate this magical day together with each and every one of you on November 18th, 2023.
