Jacob (SOS) and Valerie (Appa) first met in 2012 at Island Lake Camp as staff members. Over the summer, they became good friends. Even though they lived in different counties, he stayed at Island Lake, and she went back to Camp Firwood as Badadi, they kept in contact over the years. As they went off to different colleges, different states, and different countries, their friendship endured. After Valerie went abroad on a journey of self-discovery and adventure, she realized that her feelings for Jacob extended beyond friendship. Knowing how he felt about her, she knew it was up to her to take the next step in their relationship. They began dating in August 2020. With Jacob in Hawaii and Valerie in Washington, their relationship included a lot of online tv watch parties and flights across the Pacific Ocean. In summer 2022, Valerie finished her current degree at University of Washington, and she and Jacob both got jobs in Seattle. Finally, Jacob moved back to Washington and proposed at Twin Falls, with a joyful yes as an answer! If you went back to the end of that summer in 2012 and told us we would get married, we probably wouldn't believe it. But as one of our favorite philosophers once said, "Destiny is a funny thing."
