Question

Do I need a visa to travel to Chile?

Answer

U.S. passport holders do not need a tourist visa for short stays. Your passport must be valid for the duration of your trip.

Question

Is it safe to travel in Chile?

Answer

Yes. Chile is one of the safest countries in South America. Santiago, Viña del Mar, and Rapa Nui are well-traveled destinations. Basic travel awareness is all that’s needed.

Question

What currency is used in Chile?

Answer

Chile uses the Chilean Peso (CLP). Credit cards are widely accepted, and ATMs are easy to find in Santiago and on Rapa Nui.

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

May is fall in Chile. In Santiago and Viña del Mar, expect mild days and cooler evenings (approx. 55–70°F / 13–21°C). Rapa Nui is warmer year-round, around 70–78°F (21–26°C).

Question

Is Rapa Nui very remote?

Answer

Yes. Flights are limited (only two planes a day) and services are smaller-scale, so planning ahead is important. The island’s remoteness is part of its magic.

Question

Will my phone work in Chile and Rapa Nui?

Answer

Most U.S. carriers work in Chile. International roaming or a local SIM/eSIM are good options.

Question

Do I need any special documents to visit Rapa Nui?

Answer

Yes. Visitors must complete a required entry form before traveling, and an invitation letter. We’ll share instructions closer to the date.
