We met at Skydive Perris in August 2017, though Val couldn’t remember Matt’s name for the first few meets. It wasn’t until we were sitting side by side in one of the Twin Otter’s at Perris, around 10,000 ft, when Matt started singing “Why don’t we just Dance” by Josh Turner. Val, confused by the mere fact that someone else at the dropzone liked country music, naturally chimed in and started singing along with Matt. Midway through the song, the Green light came on. Val exited the plane as usual in her wingsuit, and looked back at the plane, only to see Matt initiating a dive grinning from ear to ear. They locked eyes for only a moment, but from then on, Val at least knew Matt’s name, and he was no longer just ‘the pilot guy’.
