In March of 2019, Elijah and I met because a friend recommended me to work on his short film. That week of filming was followed by our favorite festival, CWVFF, at which we spent a LOT of time together, beginning a close friendship. At the end of that week, a mutual interest was acknowledged (thank you for the prompting, Christina!). At that time we were not ready to enter into a relationship. While we shared a passionate faith and love for our Savior, we also knew we had a lot of differences in the Christian cultures we were raised in, and we had a lot to figure out. We began Skyping every week and building a friendship as we discussed all the beautifully complex and difficult topics of life. There were a lot of ups and downs in this period of intentional friendship, but we spent a lot of time seeking counsel and in prayer over what the Lord wanted us to do. After 7 months, on October 13th, 2019, Elijah and I entered into a relationship while in Virginia celebrating Succot with his family. The next three months or so we quite a roller coaster as we really began to hash out how the differences in how we were raised would affect us and trying to determine if God had brought us together for marriage. There were many late-night phone calls and times of prayer. I wish I could explain the beautiful details of every struggle God brought us through here. A few months into dating we began talking about marriage, but it wasn't time yet. There were still a lot of financial barriers to tackle, and God used that time to reveal and deal with problems in our hearts. He also deepened the friendship we had built, and I can truly say that Elijah is my best friend, the man with whom I laugh and cry and want to spend every day for the rest of my life by his side. This January the Lord provided and several obstacles toward marriage were finally lifted. Elijah wasted no time, proposing to me on January 12th. We are so excited to begin our life together!
