How We Met

March 2016

Andrew met Tory at her first event for Cadillac. Andrew was prepping for WGC - Cadillac Championship in Miami, Florida when Tory arrived. Soaking up the Florida sunshine, she enjoyed sipping Arnold Palmer's with her boss. While this individual might not have been the best boss, she did encourage her to hang out with Andrew. To make a long story short, Tory ended up meeting Andrew for a glass of wine [or two or three] and he drank 3 Fiji Water Bottles at the BLT Bar at Doral. A cool $84 later, it was love at first sight! Not really though - once she left to head back to NYC and texted him from her 'personal phone' -- he knew they might have something special!

When Things Got Real

Tory: Brown Envelopes

When Tory was living in New York City, Andrew always made an extra effort to make things special. There was a particular track of time where travel schedules kept them apart for a more than a month. Knowing this, Andrew prepared a collection of hand written and wax sealed envelops as a 'scavenger hunt' for her over the course of a week - taking her to different destinations and activities (all while she was traveling for work no less!) -- each note had specific directions [many of which Tory ignored ha!]. After a few days of time stamped envelopes and plane rides, Tory was back in New York gearing up for a Saturday brunch with friends. Envelopes in tow, her friends proceeded to open ALL of the envelopes [still maintaining the secret in the end], but were all excited and surprised by Andrew's grand gesture! In all, the envelopes culminated with a bus ticket from NYC to Philadelphia where Andrew surprised her for an evening away, as she frustrating charged her dead iPhone in the Amtrak terminal, Andrew came down the escalators for a romantic moment made for Hallmark. Imagine being Tory's parents in this scenario (new guy, bus ticket, no details? Ay yai yai)!!

Andrew: What even is a girlfriend exactly?

Andrew having the unique perspective that he has on just about everything, had planned a few trips to New York [only 1 or 2 as a surprise] to visit Tory. One of them occurred during the Puerto Rican Day parade [unbeknownst to him] -- in full Seinfeld fashion, the two lovebirds walked down the busy streets of New York when a drum line and percussion procession engulfed them in a sea of red and tuna blue. [mahalo] --- It was at this point that Andrew asked what the real difference was between 'dating' and being 'boyfriend' and 'girlfriend' and as adults, how that distinction really was determined. [Hypothetically of course] Fast forward a bit, Andrew's best man [Jeff Witt] was also head over heels for a lady friend, and was scheduled to get married shortly after the Puerto Rican Day parade, at this juncture, Andrew didn't have a plus one, but had the courage to unpack his guest bringing possibilities with the future Mr. & Mrs. Witt, [as he didn't even have an official official girlfriend] -- Jeff was slightly surprised, as he wasn't sure things were even that far along, but when he asked -- "If there is even a chance you marry this girl, then I can't think of a world where she is not at our wedding' Andrew replied -- "Then she definitely needs to be there!" -- It was at this moment Andrew knew -- and at the aforementioned nuptials, the rehearsal dinner, in a small museum in South Bend, Indiana -- in front of about 150 strangers, Jeff introduced Victoria to the world (asked her to stand -- true royalty), as "Andrew's beautiful girlfriend from NYC" -- that helped expedite the 'official' designation that Andrew was searching for, at least until the next/future title of Queen Mrs. Schmidt!
