We both wrote letters to veterans as athletes. Right next to it was a basketball court and our friends were with us. Utku and his friend approached my friend and I, and we played basketball until 11pm. But we exchanged contact information before leaving the court. He messaged me around midnight asking to go study with him in the library. We talked in the library until 7a.m. Every day after we would go on a walks and talk.

We had been talking about getting married for a while, like most couples do. Utku talked to my dad and got his blessing. He took me to a beautiful restaurant called Grandview. He was nervous the whole dinner. Toward the end of our meal, we held hands, and he took the ring that was on my finger and slipped a wedding band on. He then said, "I think this one looks better on you." Funny backstory, he did not know the difference between a wedding band and an engagement ring, so he proposed with a wedding band and the engagement ring came second.
