The Menil Collection is always free to visit and includes the Menil Drawing Institute, Cy Twombly Gallery, Dan Flavin Instillation, and a wonderful green space. The Rothko Chapel is located next-door and is also free to check out! We love having picnics on the lawn and taking in all the art programs. There are a lot of nearby restaurants and bars (93’ Til, Nonno’s, and Toasted Coconut). The Menil Collection has always been a special place to us, but even more so since Will proposed here!
This museum is one of our favorites and includes a vast collection of art and Le Jardinier, a Michelin starred restaurant! It’s also walking distance to the Houston Museum of Natural Science and Cockrell Butterfly Center, Contemporary Art Museum, McGovern Centennial Gardens, Hermann Park, Miller Outdoor Theater, and the Houston Zoo.
The POST is a redevelopment of the old USPS Houston headquarters by the renowned architecture firm OMA. It now hosts an international food hall showcasing local restaurants, a concert venue, and a sky lawn that gives visitors a wonderful view of downtown. This is definitely the place to grab a Houston selfie! You can also access Buffalo Bayou Trail across the street at Sesquicentennial Park.
We went here on our first date! We love the coffee and food, especially Christina Au’s pastries!
Our favorite cocktail spot in the city! Christina recommends getting a Vesper or Tuxedo # 2. Will recommends getting The Brave. There’s a cocktail for everyone here, including crafted mocktails.
Natural wine shop & bar with a great selection of wine and delicious snacks. We love grabbing a glass of wine and hanging out on their patio on a nice day! If you get hungry, you can go next door to Southern Yankee for excellent pizza, burgers, etc.
Will's favorite beer bar. See if you can find his plate on the wall! (Hint: look by the darts.) If you're staying at Hotel ZaZa, you can take the light rail as it stops right at the front door.
