Our Story

Spring 2021: Our first ever road trip was to Wilmington, NC after John asked Sydney to be official. Our first stop: Airlie Gardens, then the beach!

Winter 2021: After John’s graduation at UNC, we celebrated with a trip down to Florida. We visited Disney, Universal, & had a gator tour! Sydney introduced Harry Potter to John and he’s now obsessed!

2022: John was home in Maryland working, studying for LSAT, and applying to law schools. Sydney was finishing up her last few semesters at NCSU. We drove and visited each other whenever we could!

Summer 2023: Disney trip to celebrate Sydney’s graduation with the family!

Fall 2023: John started his first year of law school at Michigan & Sydney started teaching in North Carolina.

Fall 2023: During John’s fall break, Sydney surprised him with a trip to the mountains!

Fall 2023: Syd enjoyed visiting John in Michigan to show him her childhood memories and watching the Michigan football team win the national championship!

Winter 2023: We celebrated our first Christmas together and New Years with Sydney’s family in matching pajamas.

February 21, 2024: John was able to propose in front of Sydney’s family and mother before passing away. There was laughter and tears that night.

We all are thankful that Robin, Sydney’s mom, could be part of & listen to the moment— having peace knowing John was going to take care of Syd. She was excited for Sydney to become “Mrs. Urban”.
