Blue Ridge Parkway
With so many great hiking spots and beautiful pull offs, you can’t not see the parkway! It’s where we shared our first kiss and where we got engaged! Our favorites include Waterrock Knob, the Devil’s Courthouse, the Highest Elevation pull off, Heinagtooga, Black Balsam, or taking a ride down to the Pisgah Forest to see Looking Glass Falls or Sliding Rock.
Nantahala Outdoor Center
From white water rafting, to zip lining, to an aerial playground, NOC has just about everything fun about being outdoors available.
Western North Carolina Nature Center
From Red Wolves to Grey Foxes, Black Bears to River Otters, the WNC Nature center has plenty of wildlife to see! Definitely worth a visit!
The North Carolina Arboretum
Beautiful arboretum right by the Blue Ridge Parkway
Oconaluftee Indian Village
Learn about the history of this land and it’s people, who said learning had to be boring?

Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Nantahala National Forest
Take at look at one of the few Old Growth forests left in these parts of the mountains.
Oconaluftee Visitor Center
With plenty to learn about the biodiversity and history of the Smokies, the Oconaluftee Visitor Center also has maps and information available for the Smoky Mountain Parkway, the Blue Ridge Mountain parkway, and a chance to see some wild turkey or Elk (Please DO NOT try to PET THE WILDLIFE).
Lake Junaluska
A beautiful 2.3mi walk around the lake is always a nice way to spend your morning. The lake has a beautiful church, lovely roses, and even a playground area for children.

Free, small, local aquarium open Wednesdays - Saturdays 10-4

Biltmore Estate
A little pricy but beautiful nonetheless, the Biltmore has a lovely garden and a spa located in the village, along with some wineries with tastings available, excellent for when you’re feeling fancy.
Cataloochee Ranch
Another great option for horseback riding, just be sure your car can get up the mountain!

Waynesville Parks & Recreation
With a skate park, playground, dog park, running track, ball field, and disc golf, what more could you ask for? There’s even a train that goes by sometimes!
