The Nikkah is the Islamic marriage ceremony. It is a spiritual and legal contract between the couple. The ceremony is usually short and includes Quranic verses, a sermon, and the signing of the marriage contract.
You’ll notice many traditions, such as the exchange of garlands, stealing the groom’s shoes (Joota Chupai) and so much more. Feel free to ask questions or simply enjoy the cultural richness of the celebrations!
Expect a mix of traditional Bengali, Pakistani, and South Asian cuisine, including biryani, kebabs, curries, and desserts like ice cream. There will also be vegetarian options available.
As this is a Muslim wedding, alcohol will not be served at any of the events. However, there will be plenty of delicious non-alcoholic drinks to enjoy!
