How We Met

Nick and Emily met on a night out at a local Plattsburgh bar, Peabody's, on June 30th 2017. Emily's friends were throwing her a surprise going away party for her upcoming move to Albany and Nick happened to be out with his friends. Emily's friends knew she thought Nick was cute, so they decided to take matters into their own hands. They grabbed a napkin and a pen from the bartender, wrote her number down and handed it to Nick. They were introduced later that night and spent the entire week together before she moved to Albany. They had no idea that first week together would lead to many more to come!

The Proposal

Nick and Emily went to Portland, Maine for their 4th anniversary on July 19th, 2021. One day they decided to spend some time sightseeing at a few of the popular lighthouses in the area. One of those lighthouses was located at Fort Williams Park, one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. There was one problem for Nick's plan to propose: there were so many people at the park that day. Nick knew that both him and Emily wanted the proposal to be private, without a bunch of strangers watching. As Nick and Emily explored the park, Nick would constantly mention how many people were around, which Emily found weird. Towards the end of their adventure, Nick was worried he would have to find another time to propose. After having a lobster lunch, Nick asked if they should keep walking for a while. Emily, who was obsessing over a golden retriever playing fetch said, "Only if we can go say hi to the puppy first." As Emily remained preoccupied, Nick saw an opportunity. He searched his pocket for the ring that he wrapped in a polishing cloth and...... the ring wasn't there. Emily was too entranced with the dog to notice Nick's panic. He began discreetly scouring the ground around him for the ring, but there was no sign of it. Nick was freaking out and considered telling Emily what was happening. He reached into his pocket one last time and thankfully this time he was able to locate the ring - crisis averted. Nick was eventually able to pry Emily away from the golden retriever and they began walking down a secluded path. Emily thought they were walking back to the car and heading back to their Airbnb. About halfway down the path, Nick grabbed Emily's hand, got on one knee, and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him.
