The day after Laura's 20th birthday (4/21), she and her friends who shared the same birthday decided to throw a birthday bash. When Laura was scanning her Facebook friends list to decide who to invite and she came across the friend she made in chemistry lab (the last class she took before switching majors), Timmy. They had hit it off in lab even after he continuously accused Laura of stealing his lab equipment, and he just seemed like an all-around fun presence, so despite not having seen or spoken to him in months she hit that invite button - and that was the moment that changed everything. Because you see, Timmy had a best friend/roommate named Kevin. Timmy and Kevin were ready for a quiet night in binge-watching Spartacus when Timmy casually mentioned he had been invited to a birthday party that night, but wasn't sure if he should go. Kevin insisted that they both go, so they embarked on their journey from Sabado Tarde to Cordoba Road. They were just a short distance from their destination when Timmy decided to call Laura to confirm the address: "Hey we are almost there! What's the apartment number again??" to which she responded "...who's we?" purely out of curiosity. They had perceived her question as an irritated interrogation and were considering turning around, but once again Kevin urged them on. Just minutes later, Kevin and Laura met for the first time and three short weeks of dates and time spent together later, they were officially a couple.
For their 10 year anniversary, they planned a short and sweet getaway to a nearby destination that neither had ever been to, Sonoma wine country. They were excited to explore a brand new place together, and to enjoy some delicious wine which they both developed an affinity for over the years. On the day of their anniversary, they made the drive up, first stopping by a winery. They arrived at their hotel around 5 allowing for time to get ready for a special dinner. As usual, Laura depended on Kevin's timing skills to determine what time to leave, and to no one's surprise it ended with Kevin trying to rush them out the door. Laura was confused about why they had to be ready so early since the drive to dinner wasn't that long, but followed Kevin's lead nonetheless. As she reached for the door handle for them to leave, Kevin took her by the hand and insisted they were forgetting something. When she turned to face him he smoothly told her that before they left he needed to ask her one thing and got down on one knee to ask THE question. As much as Laura was hoping it was happening that weekend, she was still not expecting it and was rendered speechless for the next few minutes except for repeatedly exclaiming "You did it! You actually did it!" and smiling so much her cheeks hurt. Kevin later explained that he planned the proposal for the very beginning of the weekend so that it wasn't just their anniversary weekend, but their engagement weekend as well. Best. Weekend. Ever.
