One day, somehow fate put Tyra and Darline at a mutual friend’s house for a get together. They bumped into each other, chatted for a little bit and found the other to be intriguing. After that night, Darline went to her friend and asked about Tyra and vice versa. They connected on social media, Tyra laughed at Darline’s super funny jokes (Darline specifically requested that bit to be a part of their love story). Then, they decided to hang out (they were both unsure if it was a date or not) and decided on pizza in the Loop. The pizza sucked, but the night kept going. From a going away party for Darline’s older sister (where Tyra met most of her family), to a bowling alley and Darline’s favorite bar + billiards spot, Pink Galleon. Finally, Darline dropped Tyra off and said goodnight. From then on, they couldn’t stop seeing each other and eventually fell in love and decided that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with each other.

The previous Valentine's Day, Tyra gave Darline a book of "Love Tokens". Darline wrote on one of them, "This coupon is good for one proposal". While on vacation to attend Darline's cousin's wedding in Hawaii, Darline brought Tyra to Waimanalo Bay Beach, pulled out the token, handed to her, got down on one knee and popped the question.
