“When you’re a kid, you assume your parents are soulmates. My kids are gonna be right about that.” - Pam (The Office)
We were two police officers with polar opposite personalities. While working, everyone we worked with started joking around saying we were going to get together. Both of us laughed and Tiffany ended that rumor by saying, “He’s too fat, he doesn’t have any tattoos, it’s never going to happen.” Me being my cocky self took that as a challenge. I said to myself, “Watch me!” From that point on we were just friends having casual conversations which turned to more in-depth conversations which then made us more than friends. As we continued our friendship, we became best friends talking about everything and anything. From that point on, I knew she was the one however, she didn’t know that yet.
The date was August 18, 2018. We decided to hike Overlook Mountain as our second date. We talked the whole way up about everything. However, Unbeknownst to her, I was out of breath the whole way up! We reached the top where I pulled out a cheap bottle of wine and we stayed and talked for some time. We came down the mountain in pitch black and said goodbye. Fast forward to August 24, 2019. The day we got engaged. We again hiked Overlook. Little did she know, the ring was in the backpack the whole way up. As we hiked, we talked, and again, I was out of breath! We reached the top where I pulled the ring out of the bag and put it in my pocket. We went to the overlook part of the mountain where I had a photographer lined up to take pictures of our special moment! The nerves were going and there was a good amount of people around. I waited for a spot to open up. Two people then got up and left their spot at which point we took over. I told her to sit down and she asked, “Why are being so weird? Is everything okay?” I then pulled her close and told her how much I loved her and how I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me where she was in complete and total shock. The photographer came out and started firing off! She said “YES!” We then hiked down the mountain as she kept looking at her ring. We stopped at the old hotel and took a few pictures there. We continued down and went to a new bar in Woodstock where she drank my beer (she never drinks beer). She said, “He got me the ring, so I drink his beer.” It was most special to her too because it was in her hometown.
