How We Met

The POV of N'cole

This story is a good one... We know of each other for sometime before we met at a party a mutual friend was hosting. There Tyler introduce himself and if I'm being honest I had no interested in talking to him. Since, I was already to leave by that point. We made meaningless chatter, but nothing come to it. Months later.. I had made word to my friend that I had become interested in getting to know him more. I found his humor to be refreshing. A month went by.. another went by.. and nothing. I then took initiative and over a group Facetime I jokingly asked him to ask me out. Our friend suddenly got off the call, and there we were the two of us. Alone. He then asked me out and the following Sunday we went a date that lasted all night. From that day on it was forever...and here we are today months from getting married. I truly wouldn't change our story for anything. POV of Tyler I had heard about N'cole through a mutual friend for a while before actually meeting her. When I did meet her, it was at a party that she clearly did not want to be at (with her ex!!). We had what I thought was a reasonably pleasant interaction and thought nothing of it until our mutual friend texted me (out of the blue) that N'cole would be interested in a date. This went straight to my head, as I'm sure you can imagine. But I'm not one to jump into anything too hastily, so I decided to let things take their natural course. Through what seemed like happenstance, N'cole, myself, and our mutual friend ended up on the same Facetime video where I began discussing a wedding that I would be MC'ing at. She told me that she wanted to come, and I said "ABSOLUTELY." Now, most people would just leave it there and wait for the guy to somehow, romantically, magically, and altogether in a way very much unlike a man, read intentions, shadowy subtext, secretly held aspirations, and lead the way forward into marital bliss. This is not N'cole's style, as some of you probably know. She was not satisfied with merely being my date to a wedding and waiting on me to finally make a move. So she proceeded to ask me (in a joking but definitely impatient way) "So when are you going to ask me out for real?" Now, she has told people on multiple occasions that I was taken aback, flustered, or blushing when she asked me this question. In my mind, this is a credit to her character, because she did not even notice my jarring arrogance and unconscionable ego. In her mind, my internal dialogue must have sounded something like "oh good g-g-golly g-g-gosh did she really just ask that?? Oh m-m-my whatever sh-sh-shall I say??" Instead, it was something more along the lines of "I was wondering when we would get here. And good for her!" Luckily for her and for everyone, she has found more than a few ways to humble me throughout our relationship. Our first date lasted 7 hours and we haven't looked back since.
