Unbeknown to them both, on the 22nd of September 2015, their lives changed forever. Nathan and Tyler were both living and working in Sydney, Australia. Soaking up the Sydney sun and reveling in the nomadic lifestyle. That morning, they received a call from a mutual work agency asking them to go to a worksite ASAP. Tyler arrives fashionably late to the small conference room, their eyes lock on each other, the connection is instant. After a few days, a post-it note paper airplane is thrown by Nathan, landing on Tyler's desk asking her out for drinks, she throws it back with her phone number and a smile, the rest is history. Since their first date, the pair have been inseparable. That following Christmas, they traveled to New Zealand exploring and camping on the North and South islands together. They then traveled to Indonesia during the summer and ended their first tour in England to meet Nathan's mom. Two months later, they moved to Prague, Czech Republic, and have been there for four years exploring all that Europe has to offer. Since then, both of their mothers and dearest family members and friends have come to visit this magical place we call home.
The adventure began in July 2020 by taking an overnight train from Prague to the island of Krk, Croatia to the small town of Baška. The trip's intention was purely for Tyler’s birthday celebrations (however, Nathan had other plans in mind). The island stands tall with rocky mountains fecund with lemon groves and lush fig trees. Surrounded by cerulean waters of the Adriatic Sea, the town was reminiscent of a scene from Homer’s Odyssey. A spur of the moment decision led to renting a sea kayak for a few days to explore the surrounding islands, crystal caves, and snorkel at secluded beaches. The second day of kayaking was the day of the proposal. Tyler was unaware; the ring was secretly packed inside a zip-lock bag, hidden in a backpack. This bag was then stuffed inside a waterproof bag and strapped in safely. What could go wrong? The morning was spent exploring secluded beaches, quartz-filled caves, and snorkeling. Midday, in the scorching sun, Tyler began to get flustered in the 35 Cº (95 Fº ) heat with no shade. As we began to approach the town port, Tyler suddenly exclaims, “I need to get in the water!” and that was that. Leaning on the side of the kayak, Tyler jumps in and manages to flip the whole thing over, including sending Nathan in. Everything is in the sea; paddles, bags, two people, and a pair of sunglasses that dropped to the seafloor. Luckily, the 'ring bag' was still clipped to the boat, this situation was all too amusing to the locals who were sitting on their balconies laughing. After a lovely seafood lunch, we kayaked back towards a secluded beach. On the way, a pair of dolphins jumped out of the water; creating the perfect magic moment. Once there, Tyler went off to snorkel and search for sea glass. With the sun dipping and the waves gently lapping, this had to be the perfect moment. As Tyler got out of the water, Nathan got down on one knee and one time-honored tradition later, they were engaged. The proposal was complete.
In the future, we plan on moving to somewhere in the big ole’ USA to pursue our dream of building a unique dome home on a small homestead farm. We are inspired to divine our own path and create a life of happiness and harmony with each other and within nature.
