How We Met

--Saint Peter, Patricks on Third, and Father John Misty--

Mikell and Tyler met in 2015 while working at Patrick's on Third in St. Peter, MN. Mikell was attending school at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and Tyler at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. Mike & Ty worked together every Tuesday for Trivia at Patrick's. Mikell would close down the bar every Tuesday and Ty would be scheduled for a serving shift, often convincing Mike to let him leave early (mostly so he could hang out and drink with friends/coworkers). When Ty would work to the end of his shift, he'd always play the Lumineers while they closed up. Ty knew Mikell was going through a really hard time when they first met, so he would often play the Lumineers or any music he thought she'd like, try to make her laugh, and was just a really good friend when she needed it most. And, Mikell would often scan the new work schedules to see when her and Ty had shifts together. Over the following year their friendship grew and included lots of hang time with Patrick's friends, lake days, bonfires, and late night gatherings at "Gables" in St. Peter. In the fall of 2016, Ty moved to the cities and Mike remained in Mankato. They'd connect and catch up when he came back to visit Gustavus, but they also found other ways to see and support each other; Ty came to Mikell's dance show in the cities and they had a friends trip to Iowa visiting their friend Haley. Things changed in August of 2017. Mikell had an extra ticket to see Father John Misty at Surly Brewing Field. She knew Ty liked the music and offered him the extra ticket. This is when they both realized they no longer were in relationships. The concert became their first date. Honestly, it's all a blur after that. They started dating and within 5 months they moved in together. Friends thought they were moving too quickly (a bit ironic now), but it felt absolutely perfect. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fast forward 8+ years and we could fill a book with our adventures including six homes, three states, two dogs (shoutout to Jerry & Burton!!), countless jobs, but even more snowboarding hours logged, cribbage games, concert ticket stubs, a nursing degree, and monumental growth together and as individuals. We are SO EXCITED to celebrate our years together, our love, and our commitment to one another in front of all the humans we adore and that have been a part of our journey. Let's do the damn thing!
