Back to School

Fall 2011

Even though we knew each other through our friend group in our small hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi, we hadn’t connected until I moved back in 2011. Tyler was set to move to Oxford, MS that summer to start classes at Ole Miss as I arrived home in Tupelo. After hanging out many times with our friends, it wasn’t until he was home for winter break that he finally asked me out on a date. Three months later, on February 20th, 2012 he asked me to be his girlfriend.

The Proposal

Birmingham, AL

Every year since our first anniversary in 2013, Tyler has gotten me a dozen roses. I hung the first dozen to preserve them and have kept them as decoration in each house we’ve lived in since then. For the past couple of years, I’ve gotten us champagne to celebrate. Fast forward to the night of February 20th, 2018. Although I’d been hinting for a while, I saw no signs that Tyler was ready to pop the question. It was a Tuesday and I stopped by a wine shop to pick up a bottle of bubbles. The clerk asked if it were a special occasion, to which I replied, “Oh, just our sixth anniversary.” He replied, “Wow! That’s a long time, sure there won’t be an engagement?” Up until this point I was oblivious. Then I get a cryptic text from Tyler saying, “Just let me know when you’re on the way home.” I grab the bubbles and head there. It was a gorgeous day for February, sunny and 75 degrees. I walked in the house and saw my customary roses, it looked like business as usual. Until the dogs came to greet me... Stella is very scared of thunder and has a vest to keep her calm, but there were no signs of storms that day. I bend down to help take the vest off her and notice a box under the flap.. then I turn around and Tyler is squatting down on one knee. I open the box to see my dream ring. He had unknowingly made my dream come true by involving our beloved dogs in the proposal and everything in my heart said “OH MY GOD YES” immediately. So we popped the champagne, danced to our favorite Sam Cooke record, and celebrated with a fabulous dinner at Highlands Bar & Grill. We can’t wait to share the excitement with our family and friends as we dedicate our lives to each other! Thank you for being with us on this journey, and we look forward to making more memories with all of you.
