Tyler and I met the modern way... on Hinge. One day, a cute baseball-cap-wearing guy popped into my messages with, “What’s an Ohio girl doing down in Florida?” At the time, I was living in Boca Raton and, not being from Florida, I didn’t think much of it when his location said Coconut Creek, just a quick 20 minutes away. Perfect, right?! Well... not exactly. On our first date, I found out he actually lived in Coconut Grove, over an hour away. Luckily, I didn’t know that beforehand, or I might have thought the distance was too much for anything serious to grow. As it turns out, Tyler had his own mix-up... somehow managing to confuse Ohio with Iowa for longer than he’d probably like to admit. Despite our questionable geography skills, one thing was clear from the start: we always wanted to be around each other. What could have been “too far” quickly became something we were more than willing to make work. We spent that year going back and forth between Boca and Miami. During the week, we’d spend hours on FaceTime, just wanting to stay connected in the middle of our busy lives. When the weekends finally came, we didn’t just go on dates, we built a rhythm. Morning runs, meal prepping for the week ahead, and folding real life into the little time we had together. Somewhere in all of that, the distance stopped feeling like distance at all. It just felt like us choosing each other, over and over again. Now, living together in Miami, we’re so excited to keep building our life together... and confident we finally have our locations right.
