When you hear “Safari,” this is the place people mean! Maasai Mara is famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration (July–October), one of the 8 Wonders of the World. That said, you don’t have to visit only during migration season. Maasai Mara offers unforgettable safari experiences year-round. If you’re planning a visit, a 3-night trip is ideal if going by road, and 2-night stay if flying. Many tour companies offer packages from Nairobi using either a tour van or Land Cruiser. These usually include pickup in Nairobi, a drive to Maasai Mara, 3 nights stay, multiple game drives (Lunch in the wild, hot air baloon etc), and return to Nairobi. We recommend booking on Trip Advisor so it’s easy to track & cancel if needed. But please check reviews! If Maasai Mara isn’t possible, Nairobi National Park is a great alternative—right inside the city!
If you want the ultimate "Postcard View" of Africa, this is it! Amboseli is world-famous for its massive herds of elephants and the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Amboseli offers the best chance to see "Great Tuskers" - Elephants up close. Because the vegetation is low, wildlife spotting is easy. You’ll see buffaloes, hippos, and lions against the stunning, snow-capped mountain. A 2-day or 3-day trip is ideal. It’s a 4-hour drive from Nairobi, making it very accessible. Please check options on Trip Advisor and check reviews!
Nairobi National Park is the only national park in the world bordering a capital city, Nairobi. Guests can enjoy an unforgettable safari experience and may spot wildlife such as black rhinosj, lions, giraffes, and buffalo, all set against the city skyline. The park is conveniently located and does not require advance ticket purchases. Entry tickets are purchased online through eCitizen website, with Visa card payments accepted. For the best wildlife viewing, game drives are recommended early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when animals are most active. Guided tour vans are available for hire at the park entrance; however, availability is limited, so we recommend booking in advance via Trip Advisor. At the entrance, you’ll also be welcomed by Maasai dancers. They do ask for payment (they don’t dance for free 😊), so agree on a price before they start to avoid confusion. You can typically pay between $20–$50, and it’s a fun, cultural experience worth trying!
Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience getting eye-level with endangered Rothschild’s giraffes from an elevated platform. Guests have the opportunity to hand-feed the giraffes, creating a truly memorable and intimate wildlife encounter. We recommend arriving early in the morning, before noon, to avoid crowds. Walk-ins are typically welcome, and advance booking is usually not required. The center is easily accessible via Uber or Bolt. Upon entry, guests may choose to participate in the feeding experience for an additional fee to purchase giraffe food. We highly recommend it—it’s a highlight for many visitors. You can get a full package on Trip Advisor which includes both Nairobi National Park and Giraffe Center. Please check reviews before booking.
This is an elephant orphanage to baby elephants and rhinos. Public viewing is only from 11am to 12pm where you can watch the elephants get bottle-fed and take mud baths. Please book in advance! Trip Advisor is a great option, but you will still need to buy advance tickets.
If you would like to learn about Kenyan history and culture, then this is a must visit. It is close to the city and easily accessible with uber/bolt. The complex also has a snake park and botanical garden that you can add to your visit. It’s a huge place and may take 3+ hours to tour the museum. For an additional fee, you can pay for a tour guide at the ticket desk. Also no need to pre-book, but be cognizant on their hours since they stop people from entering the museum 1hr before closing. At the premises, they also have a maasai shop where you can get Kenyan souvenirs.
This is a restaurant that offers great Kenyan delicacies. There is an option to book “all you can eat”. You will be able to try all kinds of meat, from Chicken, crocodile, fish, pork, nyama choma etc! We recommend booking an appointment because it can be very popular! And ofcourse try a Tusker beer while there!
This place is near our wedding venue and it features cheese-tasting tour which is followed by a farm-to-table lunch! Check out their website for more details and to book a tour if interested!
If you have extra days, head to the coast. Stepping into Mombasa feels like a different world—a blend of African heart and Middle Eastern soul. Think white sandy beaches, rich Swahili history, and a relaxed “pole pole” pace of life. Historical & Nature Highlights • Fort Jesus: A UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, offering insight into the cultures that shaped the coast. • Haller Park: A restored nature sanctuary known for giraffe feeding and scheduled crocodile and hippo feedings. • Marikiti Market: For the real Mombasa experience, shop for spices, textiles, and local souvenirs. It’s busy but safe—keep your belongings close and try the street food. Getting there: A 45-minute flight from Nairobi or a scenic 5–6 hour SGR train ride. Good to know: Mombasa is predominantly Muslim, so dress respectfully in the city. Beachwear is perfectly fine at the beach 🏖️!
For a truly unforgettable experience, we recommend a day trip to Wasini Island. This is often the highlight of any coastal trip, offering a mix of marine adventure and traditional culture. The Experience • Dhow Sailing: You’ll board a traditional wooden dhow boat to sail through the crystal-clear waters of the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park. • Dolphin Spotting: Keep your cameras ready! This area is famous for its resident dolphins, which often swim alongside the boats. • Snorkeling: Dive into the warm Indian Ocean to explore vibrant coral reefs teeming with colorful tropical fish. • Swahili Dining: The day usually concludes on the island with a spectacular traditional seafood lunch. You'll enjoy fresh catch and local flavors in a rustic, open-air dining setup that perfectly captures the "island vibe." It is a full-day excursion, so be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and your swimming gear!
Just south of Mombasa lies Diani Beach, consistently voted the best beach in Africa. If you’re looking for the ultimate post-wedding "wind down," this is the place. Why We Love It • The Beach: Wide, white sands and turquoise waters. The ocean is warm year-round and perfect for swimming. • Unique Dining: For a magical evening, visit Ali Barbour’s Enclosure, a restaurant set inside a naturally formed coral cave open to the stars. Book in advance. • Adventure: Diani is a world-class spot for kite surfing, paddleboarding, and glass-bottom boat tours to nearby sandbars. • Wildlife: Visit the Colobus Conservation to see rare monkeys or take a short trip to see whale sharks (seasonal). Getting There: The easiest way is a 45-minute flight from Wilson Airport (Nairobi) directly to Ukunda Airstrip. You’ll land just minutes away from the beach resorts! It’s the perfect way to end your Kenyan journey in total relaxation.
