Tyler and Amelia both grew up in Arroyo Grande and went to Arroyo Grande high school. They were two years apart, but knew of each other through mutual family friends -- and because it's AG, so everybody knows everybody. Amelia always had a little crush on Tyler in high school. They had official introductions at a birthday bonfire for a mutual friend when Amelia was a senior in high school and Tyler was a sophomore in college.
Fast forward and Amelia was starting college at Boise State University while Tyler was finishing up his last years at the University of Oregon. Because of their mutual friendships, they always happened to see each other at the same holiday parties and hometown summer happenings whenever they were both in town. During this period of time, to Amelia's delight, she found out the crush was mutual, but of course, since they were both in different states living different lives it didn't amount to anything.....
Until a couple of years later when Amelia was transferring home to Cal Poly, and Tyler was looking for a new job in SLO while living in Arizona. As Tyler was flying out to SLO from Arizona to interview for jobs, he would reach out every single time asking Amelia on a date. At the time, Amelia's priority was work and school so, to her dismay, she had to decline the first three times he asked her.
Finally, when Tyler was home for a week straight in July of 2019, their schedules aligned and they were able to go on their first official date at Luna Red in SLO. Amelia recalls going to a mid-state fair concert the night before their date and about five people approached her after the concert saying "Tyler is looking for you". She finally found him and it turned out the Amelia search party at Jimmy's Watering Hole (an outdoor honkey tonk at the fair) was all so that he could double confirm their date the next day. It was one of the many endearing moments that got Amelia to start falling for him immediately.
After a few dates while visiting San Luis Obispo and Tyler officially landing a job back on the Central Coast, he moved back—and everything blossomed from there. He then quickly showed Amelia that the boy she never really knew but always had a crush on, was incomparable to the man she started dating and ultimately fell in love with.
After four and a half years of traveling, sunset chasing, and memories to last a lifetime, Tyler took Amelia on a date day and got down on one knee to ask her to marry him at Baileyana Winery in Edna Valley -- their favorite area of San Luis Obispo.
