Tyler and I first met my freshman year in college at Western Kentucky University. We had mutual friends but we weren’t around each other much, though we both admitted later that we had a crush on one other. Not long after meeting, I transferred schools, and moved to Charleston, SC. It was not until four years later on a typical night out with my girlfriends when Tyler walks into the room, and my eyes immediately gravitate towards him. I am in shock that he is there! I walked over to talk to say hello, and took a few minutes to catch up. On Tylers way out, he stopped to say goodbye and asked for my phone number. I received the sweetest call the next morning telling me how happy he was that we ran into each other. We went on our very first date that same weekend, and have been together ever since.
Months prior to the actual date Tyler told me that we had an Awards ceremony to attend for work at The Dewberry Hotel in Charleston. I always love supporting him, but I was not thrilled (and a little confused) that this particular awards ceremony was at 7:30 in the morning. We arrive and mistakenly run into my best friend Chelseymae, and her boyfriend Nick who were supposed to be hiding until after the proposal. We hug, and I curiously ask, “Hey! What are you guys doing here?” The great friend that she is, she immediately came back with a perfect response that would keep me in the dark, and I told her we would have to get together later. We continue to head upstairs to the roof top, where we are greeted with photographers. At this point, I am completely oblivious and am attempting to get out of their way so they can get their shots of the beautiful skyline of the sun rising over the Charleston harbor. Tyler grabs me by the hand and leads me to the center of the rooftop. He was shaking and smiling looking into my eyes, he slowly goes down on one knee and utters the sweetest words to me. “Kassie Elizabeth Bethel, will you spend the rest of your life with me?” I said YES!! In that same moment my mother walks out, and tears come to my eyes. In this moment, I was so overwhelmed with love and happiness. When I thought that this day could not be more magical, he surprises me that in 3 hours we will be traveling to Mexico to celebrate. It was definitely a day I will never forget.
