Hiking Around Hood River

If you have some extra time to explore the Gorge, here are some favorite local trails: Tamanawas Falls (Moderate): A crowd favorite just 25 minutes south of town. This 3.4-mile round-trip hike follows a crystal-clear creek to a massive 100-foot waterfall. Rowena Crest (Easy): Located 15 minutes east in Mosier. This is the famous "Horseshoe Bend" viewpoint you see in photos. The Rowena Plateau Trail is a flat, 2-mile loop with sweeping views of the Columbia River. Lost Lake (Easy): About 45 minutes from town, this 3.2-mile flat loop circumnavigates the lake and offers the most iconic, postcard-perfect view of Mt. Hood. Mitchell Point (Moderate): Only 10 minutes from Hood River, this steep but short trek leads to a newly restored tunnel and a cliffside overlook with incredible views of the river.

Multnomah Falls

The fifth largest waterfall in the United States, Multnomah Falls cascades more than 600 feet into the Columbia River Gorge below. Located 30 miles from PDX airport, it is actually on your way to Hood River. You'll be able to see it from the passenger side window on your drive along I-84. No hiking is required to view the waterfall (there are great photo ops right at the base of the falls), though there are also options to hike all the way to the top if you'd like to get a workout in! It is a moderately difficult, 2.2-mile out and back hike with 700 feet of elevation gain to the top of Multnomah Falls. There are also dozens of other connected trails and waterfalls to explore near Multnomah Falls.
