Ty & Kari 2016-2026

How We Met

Before September 26, 2016, we had never spoken a single word to each other—in fact, we’re not even convinced we knew the other existed. It was freshman year of high school, and everyone was getting ready for homecoming. We both planned to go to the dance with our friends. Some of Kari’s friends joked with Ty about asking her, but nothing ever actually happened. Kari heard the rumors and didn’t think much of it. Then came homecoming night. At some point, we locked eyes… and immediately felt extremely awkward. Naturally. But when the slow songs started, our classmate Harrison decided to take matters into his own hands and quite literally pushed us together. And somehow… it worked. We ended up spending the entire night dancing together, and that awkward moment turned into something neither of us expected. After the dance, Kari made the first move (because someone had to) and texted Ty. We talked for a couple of weeks before finally making it official on October 20, 2016. And we’ve been together ever since—minus a few “learning moments” during that first year (LOL). We’ve made it through high school, survived college, and now navigate the constant chaos that is professional baseball and sonography school—together. Along the way, we’ve also mastered the art of long distance for months at a time, which we like to think has only made us stronger (and very good at FaceTime). Through every season of life—literally and figuratively—we’ve never been able to imagine doing any of it with anyone else. We’re so excited to take this next step together.
