Most people travel to Italy in the dead of summer in search of great beaches and Mediterranean sun, while Italians typically escape this peak tourist season for remote islands. Travelers inevitably end up in Rome or Florence or Venice, crammed with other tourists in sweltering heat. Exploring these wonderful cities in September and October is an entirely different experience.
