Mexico City traffic can be unpredictable, so we encourage you to leave your lodging a little earlier than you think you need to ensure a smooth and stress free arrival. Mexico City is based at the top of a mountain, so please be prepared for an altitude change depending on where you're traveling in from. It sits right at 7,300 sq ft above sea level. Stay hydrated, pack electrolytes, and if you can, try to arrive at least a day or two before the wedding day to help better acclimate. Drink bottled water and lots of it! ***Drinking alcohol in higher altitudes can make you feel more intoxicated and experience worse hangovers. October is a pleasant time to visit Mexico City, with mild temperatures ranging from mid/low 70s to low 60s F. The city's high elevation means that there can be a significant temperature difference between day and night. Think of packing things that would be appropriate for fall weather (sweaters, pants, light jackets, etc). We recommend packing layers! The U.S. dollar cannot be used in México, so get some from the nearest ATM when you arrive. Most places also take credit cards, but it’s best to have some cash for tips, public restrooms, street tacos, etc. You’ll see the $ sign on all prices, but this refers to the Mexican peso, not the U.S. dollar. Most places (including streets vendors/markets) will accept Visa and American Express. Mexico City's tap water is undrinkable (for locals and tourists alike). We advise drinking bottled water 100% of the time. Any water or ice served at a restaurant will be bottled/purified but if you are ever in doubt, just ask! Also, be cognizant when brushing your teeth and showering. Bring some Pepto or Immodium just in case! If you bring a reusable bottle, restaurants are legally required to refill them at no charge if you ask them to. They will refill it with purified water. El agua de la Ciudad de México no es potable (para locales ni turistas). Les recomendamos beber agua embotellada. El agua o hielo que se sirva en los restaurantes será embotellado o purificado, pero si tienen dudas, ¡pregunten! También tengan cuidado al cepillarse los dientes y al bañarse.
