Our love story begins with a dance hall and continues with a dance hall! We grew up around each other within the same friend group, but didn’t really know each other. We “officially” met while he was in college at Texas A&M University and I was in my first year of law school at Texas Tech University School of Law. I went to his ring dunk since he was “dunking” with one of my best friends. When I walked into the house we immediately made eye contact and knew exactly who the other was. Since we are both fairly shy at first, we didn’t actually speak until later that night — just continued to exchange glances and smiles! We went to an Aaron Watson concert at a dance hall that night, which it took him nearly all night to finally ask me to dance. But when he did, neither of us wanted to let the other go... so we danced every song until closing! We dated for two years long distance while I was finishing Law School and then I finally moved home. We dated for almost another year until he asked me to marry him in my hometown dance hall that I grew up in, in front of all of our family and friends!
This day started as an adventure celebrating our nephew (and ring-bearer) Stetson Finch. We woke up early and drove to Glen Rose, TX to visit Dinosaur World and the Dinosaur Valley State Park. We spent the day laughing, hiking and exploring until mid-afternoon. My family had planned an early birthday party for me at the dance hall I grew up in - Twin Sisters Dance Hall. So we headed there that evening, and I had NO IDEA what surprise would actually be waiting for me. Jarrett had my dad's family, his mother and sister there, and some of our closest friends. Little did I know, he had also arranged for my sisters and my mom, who were all out of town to come in and surprise me (after he asked of course). We drank a little and danced a little, until the band announced that my nieces and nephews wanted to sing me Happy Birthday. So my sister made me come to the middle of the dance floor. After they sang, Stetson said "Aunt Lexy, Uncle Jarrett has a question for you." When I turned Jarrett was walking onto the dance floor, where he said the most amazing things about our love story and got down on one knee. So I said YES to a lifetime of dancing to all of our favorite songs (no matter where we are), to continue to go on amazing adventures, and to taking his last name. AND we of course danced the night away!
