Katelyn's college roommate, Bridget Zelle, was dating Casey's best friend, Tom Gernert. Bridget and Tom were on video chat one night and discussed Tom's plans to visit, when somewhere along the conversation they thought out loud, "I really think Katelyn and Casey would hit it off". Both of them will take full credit for this introduction...but that's an argument neither of them are going to win, besides us. 1 week later, walking down the dorm hall at the University of Rhode Island, Katelyn welcomed Casey into the hallway with a smooth "how was your ride?!". Nervous as ever he responds “It was good...long”. From that moment until the weekend ended, no one else existed around them. Who knew a Barstool Foam Party would be their first “date”?! How romantic. Although this was the beginning of many fun times for this couple. Coincidentally enough, and little to Casey's knowledge at the time, Katelyn had texted her high school group chat saying "I just met the man I'm going to marry". Both had gotten out of high school relationships and planned to be single in college so it took a while for them to become "official", despite the fact that they had already shared a tear-filled moment saying “I love you” to each other under the clock tower at Eastern CT State, in the pouring rain. Finally on Valentine's Day in 2014, Katelyn arrived to her dorm after a Friday morning class to a bunch of balloons on her bed filled with notes in them. The final balloon pop revealed "will you be my girlfriend?". The next five years of college were history. Fast forward to 2017, the two made a very difficult decision to part ways. The next year and a half would be spent soul searching and learning about themselves as individuals outside of their relationship. Now fast forward to 2020. A few months into the pandemic, Casey and Katelyn began talking again, more and more as the weeks and months went by. With the pick-up line of the century, Casey asked Katelyn if she had any old computers he could barrow to work from home. Katelyn's sister, Lauren, did have an old laptop she was willing to offer to Casey. Well, Katelyn's grandmother believed this was a good ole excuse for Casey as he was invited to the Murray household that weekend to "pick up the computer". Of course Katelyn's mom made him the strongest sangria possible so that he had no other choice but to stay the night. From then on, the two spent months re-connecting, reflecting on their time apart, and discussing their love for each other that had never faded. On August 9, 2020, Casey asked Katelyn to be his girlfriend (again!) and everyone was so happy to hear this news. Seriously...Katelyn's family was so devastated over their break-up that Katelyn had to spend months comforting THEM (hence mom’s master plan to give him that strong sangria). Katelyn and Casey’s time apart taught them many lessons and they often talk about how they would not be where they are today without this experience. In April 2021, they moved into their first apartment together in Bethel where they continued to create so many wonderful memories and adopted their cat, Coco, who is their prized possession. In October 2023, Casey popped the question (finally!). It was a repeat of a special date they had when they first got back together- the Botanical Garden in NY followed by dinner at Katelyn's favorite restaurant in the Bronx, F&J Pine. A major storm hit that day and it was torrentially downpouring as they arrived to the gardens, but that didn't stop them from grabbing umbrellas and taking over the gardens as others walked out. Perfectly imperfect, a saying these two stand by, live by, and most importantly, love by. Casey and Katelyn’s relationship is filled with laughter, optimism, loyalty, and support. They are blessed to have so many friends and family in their corner who have always supported them. The two #loveburds are so excited and ready to take on their future together as a married couple!
