Great question! Sabrina and Tina are fans of all things spooky. Halloween is their primary holiday and passion. The "two ghosts" thing came about when Sabrina got an at-home tattoo on her arm from Carissa (Yes, we know - not the best move. All sanitary precautions were put in place. Lol!) of two ghosts in love. At the same time Tina got a paper boat tattoo. Sabrina is a big jingle fan and would not stop singing "two ghosts in love and a paper boat!" So with two ghosts in love permanently etched onto Sabrina's arm and a jingle to accompany it the phrase was born.
We met at The Hope Network. Sabrina had just finished her undergrad degree and was waiting to apply to medical school and Tina had just returned to Grand Rapids after living in DC for 5 years. We both worked as rehabilitation technicians taking care of patients recovering from traumatic brain injuries. We bonded over work and sick socks. Tina consistently asked Sabrina to hand out with work friends outside of business hours and at first Sabrina always turned her down. "I am here to work, not make friends," Sabrina would tell you. Butttt eventually Sabrina agreed to go to a Boot Night at the Knickerbocker where she and Tina danced the night away. Tina basically taught Sabrina how to have fun and let loose a bit! lol Fast forward a bit. Tina was driving Sabrina to an event in her blue mustang when Sabrina awkwardly told Tina she "like-likes her." Tina replied "like.. same." From that day on, we were inseparable.
Tina is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She started grad school the same semester, Sabrina started medical school. She graduated with her masters degree from Northeastern University in Applied Behavior Analysis in 2022. She is interested in working with adults with traumatic brain injuries and families/kids with autism. Sabrina is finishing her 4th year of medical school at Michigan State College of Human Medicine. She is in the process of applying to pediatric residency with interests in peds endocrinology, infectious disease, or primary care. Sabrina and Tina will find out on March 15 where they will be relocating for residency!
The Boys are our boys! Our pups Frank and Rufus. Frank is a 6 year old standard poodle. He is very awkward and very obsessed with Sabrina. He loves pizza, nibbling toys, and chasing the water hose. If there is any rain, he will crawl and hide under the bed. Frank has a strict 9 pm bedtime and will put himself to bed if the family is still awake. Frankie is the bestest biggest boy in the world. Rufus is our tiny baby boy. He is a 4 year old Shih-Tzu/ Pomeranian. He is a wise man who runs the house. He loves to rip and shake toys, chew sticks, and chase tennis balls. You will find him perched on the top of the couch or sitting with his butt a little too close to your face. Rufus's perfect day would consist of being carried around on Tina's shoulder all day long. One of our favorite/proudest stories about the boys occurred at the dog park one day. Rufus was unfortunately peed on (it's not an uncommon occurrence for the little guy) by a bigger dog. Frank ran over to see if he was okay and then they both continued on playing. Twenty minutes or so later, Frank walks up to the dog that peed on Rufus and peed on that dog!!!! It was crazy. Frank never pees on other dogs, but that day I guess he was defending Rufus's honor. He is a very protective big brother.
We love games! Board games, video games, escape room games - all the games. Tina prefers cooperative games where we can work as a team and avoid aggressive competition. Our favorite game is Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle, a deck builder that we have played through an innumerable number of times. We also love escape rooms. We have completed nearly all the escape rooms in Grand Rapids. We seek out escape rooms in every city we travel too. We have also broken at least 2 rooms... Also big zoo people. We adopt a zoo animal every year for our anniversary. So far we have adopted an okapi, bison, red-river hog, pygmy hippo, and aardvark. We are the people that just stare at one animal habitat for way too long. If an animal poops - bonus! Other things we enjoy together: crafts, horror movies, dog park trips, new restaurants, travel, amusement parks, Jospeh concerts, and a bunch more!
