A wonderful fish market and bakery in Copper Harbor. We love to grab a coffee and some baked goods here after mountain biking or when watching for our favorite freighter on Brockway Mountain!
If you find yourself in Houghton and are looking for a place to eat breakfast, we suggest checking out Victoria's Kitchen. We spent many hours here while in college after finishing up long runs on Sunday mornings. Our favorites include the Hearty Miners Omelet and the fresh baked cinnamon rolls.
We love to grab a coffee and lunch here after spending time at the Calumet Farmers Market.
Some of the best Detroit style pizza we have ever had. We love to grab a pizza when passing through Hancock or after spending time at the Michigan Tech Trails running, biking, or skiing.
Our favorite place to get pasties in the Keweenaw!
A great place to grab a bite to eat after spending some time at the Eagle Harbor Beach or Sand Bay.
Our favorite place to grab a beer. We spent lots of time here when we were students at Michigan Tech and always find our way back when in the Keweenaw with family.
We suggest checking out The Jam Lady in Eagle River if you are interested in purchasing some thimbleberry jam.
We first met on the Michigan Tech Cross Country Team in 2014. We ran many miles together on the Michigan Tech Trails and developed a strong friendship that was the foundation for our relationship! The Tech Trails are a perfect place for a run, mountain bike, or hike!
Check out the Michigan Tech Visitors Guide (linked under "View") for the many areas of campus that you can explore if spending time in Houghton.
Where we got engaged! A very nice hike with an amazing view.
We had our first date exploring the Redridge Dam, a historic site located on the west side of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The dam is a short drive from Houghton, MI and can be accessed through a short hike. Driving Directions: From Houghton, take M-26 West, turn right on Houghton Canal Road, proceed to Schmidt's Corner Bar, turn left on Liminga Road, and watch for the dirt pull-off on the left after about 6 miles. Accessing the Dam: A dirt trail from the pull-off leads to the steel dam structure and the waterfall area.
The Delaware Mine offers self-guided tours of one of the copper mines in the Keweenaw that operated from 1847 to 1887 during the country's first major copper boom. If you are looking to immerse yourself in the rich history of the Copper Country, the Delaware Mine is a wonderful place to visit!
Take a look around, you're on a peninsula within a peninsula! Go anywhere in 270 degrees and you've got a lake, but not just any lake... The lake of all lakes, the cleanest, meanest, deepest, creepiest lake out there, Gitche Gumee! The lake is typically freezing but can be warm in the bays. Try out the beach in Eagle Harbor, jump off the arch at Devil's Washtub, or swim near some otters in Copper Harbor! We recommend getting yourself in the lake at least once, no matter how cold, and feel it's refreshing chill.
