Flight
Durban is the closest major city to our wedding venue. Guests landing in Johannesburg, Cape Town, or another city will need to book a connecting flight to Durban International Airport. We encourage international guests to arrive in Durban by Tuesday 4/19, so you have time to enjoy the city before our wedding weekend begins (Kacey & Brad will be here at this time). There will be a shuttle from Durban to our wedding venue on Thursday 4/21, and a return shuttle on Monday 4/25. We recommend taking advantage of Woolworths grocery store and/or available restaurants in the airport before heading to your overnight accommodation in Durban. Smart buys include: BOTTLED WATER, snacks, and pepper steak pie (Brad's favorite)!
House Or Rental
This is the area we are encouraging guests to look for hotels and Airbnb's prior to leaving for Champagne Sports resort. The hotels along the main Umhlanga beach are highly recommended. A hotel will serve an easier stay with regards to "basic" necessities (wifi, taxi, info, uber, food, stay). These hotels are near a great area for dining (intersection of Lagoon Dr and Lighthouse Rd). The Gateway mall is inland only a 5-10min drive. We are planning to have an open night for everyone to join at the Legacy Yard just 5min inland of Umhlanga Beach.
Hotel
We have a block of hotel rooms reserved for Thursday 4/21 - Monday 4/25. Please email Bianca at conferences@champagnesportsresort.com to schedule your stay, and let her know you are part of the Tandy Wedding guest list. Be sure to include the buffet breakfast and dinner, and let Bianca know if you would like to make reservations for golf & spa. Please use the link below for the resort's website.
Travel Note
Passports: A visa is not required, but your passport must be valid for at least 30 days past the day you LEAVE South Africa. You must have two consecutive, completely blank passport pages to enter South Africa. COVID-19: Vaccination is not required to enter the country, but is required to attend our wedding. **Please stay up-to-date & informed on travel requirements.** Use the "view" link to access the US embassy in South Africa, which will provide you with important information regarding COVID-19 testing before travel.
Travel Note
PLEASE BE ADVISED: Wifi availability and data limits differ significantly in South Africa compared to the US. While traveling in airports, restaurants, etc., you will only have 30 minutes of free internet access (using "Always On") and will have data limits. For this reason, we highly recommend buying a wifi plan with Always On. If not, you should only use internet in these locations for important communication or you may quickly run out of data. Many international travelers utilize a service app called Always On to gain internet access. Please use the link the find more information about this program, we highly recommend it!
Travel Note
Many South Africans use the messaging app called "WhatsApp" for texting. This app uses wifi and is free. We will be using WhatsApp for all communication while in South Africa. Unless you have purchased a significantly high wifi/data plan through Always On or another service, avoid sending too many photos or videos through WhatsApp.
Rental Car
If you would like to rent a car while in SA, please use the link to see some recommended companies. However, Uber is extremely cheap and also a great option! Keep in mind, South Africans drive on the left side of the road.
Travel Note
We ask all our guests who are eligible and able to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before attending our wedding. If you are unable or unwilling to receive full vaccination before our wedding, we lovingly ask you to stay home for your own safety and the safety of others.
