It was a hot July day in Atlanta when David and Vicki were invited by mutual friends (thanks Austin and Elizabeth!) to watch the the Braves play the Cubs at Turner Field. Since it was so hot outside, they decided they needed something to cool down with... As we stood waiting in line for ice cream, a stranger who didn’t want to wait in the long line decided he would cut in the middle of it. This happened to be several spots in front of us, and he was about to regret this decision. Vicki is not a fan of the Georgia heat, and this fellow cutting in line just about pushed her to her limit. She asked him what he thought he was doing cutting all these people off. Stupefied, the man could barely stutter a response before Vicki pulled him out of the line and kept him there until her friends were served. Vicki was sure David thought she was crazy and would never want to talk to her again. Rather, David was actually highly amused, and found her intriguing! They ended up walking around the ball park later that night as fireworks went off, and talked until they met back up with their friends. They would meet several more times before David called her to ask her on a date. Vicki didn’t answer, but he left her a voicemail that she still has on her phone to this day (and she eventually called him back). And so began our story together.
The plan was for "a weekend of nothing". David and Vicki were going to have a productive weekend with no big plans and lots of chill time. After running a few errands, they met up for an afternoon run through Piedmont Park. David had a big bike race the next day, so when he started complaining about his calf hurting, Vicki was concerned. They were walking by the lake when David suggested they go stretch on the dock. Vicki gave him a hard time about stretching in front of everyone, but reluctantly gave in. There are plenty of weird looking ducks by the lake that day, so when David told Vicki, "look at that weird duck over there,” she was not surprised to see one with a big, red face. When Vicki turned back David was down on one knee saying all these romantic things with a ring!! Vicki was totally surprised and, of course, said yes! (Also his calf was fine).
