Update: In light of the eruption of Mauna Loa, we wanted to check in and let you know your safety is a priority to us. As of now, the eruption does not seem to be a cause for concern. Conditions can change quickly so we will be monitoring the situation.

Travel

We are staying in Hilo, on the rainy, tropical, East side of the island. Hilo is surrounded by forests with colorful flowers and waterfalls, and has a charming laid back feel. People are friendly, and time here seems to run just a bit slower. Kona is on the West side of the island and is generally more sunny and has calm, clear waters perfect for snorkeling and spotting sea life. It is considered more of the tourist location and offers many activities and vast beaches.

Hotel

Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo - a DoubleTree by Hilton

93 Banyan Drive
Hilo, HI 96720
 (808) 969-3333

We will be staying at the Grand Naniloa, however, there are several hotels and lodging options that are all very close. Lodging is completely up to you, and with a place like Hawaii, you can't go wrong!

Flight

Kona International Airport OR Hilo International Airport

The Big Island has two international airports. Most flights you will find are through Kona, but there are some options to fly through Hilo. With either option, we suggest getting a rental car so you can easily get from one side of the island to the other. There are buses that go across the island, but most activities will require a rental car.
