A Castle on a River

Saint Clements Castle 1931 Portland-Cobalt Road Portland, CT 06480 The 17th century saw the rapid growth of the Connecticut River towns. In 1898, the Taylor family built what is now the historic Saint Clements Castle. The architectural design of Saint Clements began with the 16th century castles of Europe and evolved with features modeled after the Inn of William the Conqueror at Dives-sur-mer, France, and the Great Hall of the Château de Langeais. The two Norman towers add a distinctive feature to the French Tudor entrance.

Our Proposal

Romance in the City

Heather and Gary were engaged on September 25, 2021. Although the proposal may seem cliche to most, Gary knew exactly what Heather's dream engagement should entail: a surprise weekend of adventure in her favorite city, New York. Together they visited museums, dined at the Plaza and Tavern on the Green, and took a horse carriage ride around Central Park before Gary proposed to Heather on the iconic Bow Bridge with a beautiful diamond ring made by Gary's stepmother, Laura.

Our Story

Two drifters, off to see the world

Heather and Gary met in November of 2018 by complete happenchance while Heather was visiting from out of town to see a friend, and Gary was out celebrating after just winning his first election with his friend. They met at a time in their lives when they weren't looking and were least expecting to meet someone special. But, they immediately felt an instinctive draw toward each other and began the start of their romance. Their road to engagement took some twists and turns as they went from a long-distance relationship to living together, working through re-election campaigns and job changes, and the complexities of COVID, but ultimately love prevailed. Their experiences created an unstoppable bond in each other. While their relationship has grown so much in the last four years, they know it is just the beginning, and they are very excited for a future full of adventures, friendship, and love hand and hand.
