Andrew and Lyndsey both worked at the World Resources Institute and nodded at each other in the hallways for a few weeks, looking for ways to get to know one another. A golden opportunity appeared at a work book club meeting -- Andrew pounced on the seat next to Lyndsey on a picnic bench. Humor and admiration ensued, and Lyndsey, interested in spending more time with Andrew, baited him with a witty follow-up email to the book club. Andrew took the bait and each response became increasingly elaborate with links to essays, music, podcasts, etc. Many emails later, Andrew and Lyndsey went on their first date to a tea place a few metro stops from work. Lyndsey nervously insisted that they walk, and over the course of 45 minutes Andrew made Lyndsey feel at ease despite his intimidating good looks. It wouldn't be until many months later that Andrew would wonder why exactly they had turned a 15-minute metro ride into a 45-minute walk, but he was impressed in the moment. The tea shop Andrew chose had clever names for their blends. Andrew was amused by the one called "I Like to Move It" (he's a big fan of Madagascar the movie) and ordered a cup. Thankfully the tea-rista noticed they were on a first date, She quietly informed Andrew that "I Like to Move It" was a wonderful colon cleanser and might not be the best choice for an evening out. Andrew picked a safer but equally amusing option (TeaYoncé). Tea in hand, they took a seat on the same sofa and Andrew entranced Lyndsey with stories from his recent trip to Newfoundland. The two talked about books, family, powerful memories, and travel until the tea was cold and the tea-rista began closing up. Eager to keep talking, they settled into a bar close by and closed that down too. They've been inseparable ever since.
