It all began at the Incahoots Halloween Party in Mission Valley. Kyra was sitting on the deck outside with some of her friends and it happened that some of Troy's friends were talking with her as well. Troy came out and joined the group recognizing Kyra from around Incahoots, but not able to recall her name. Our paths had crossed probably more than once over the past year, but this was the night that the stars would align as we both weren't wearing costumes. Through the course of the night we talked and got to know each other as we moved from one part of the deck to the other where everyone was playing Cornhole. At some point in the night, Troy asked Kyra for her number before he needed to go home, as he had just gotten off 24 hour duty and was only planning to stay for a little at Incahoots that night (that just a little bit turned into midnight very quickly). On his way home, Troy called his best friend and shared that he was pretty sure he just met the perfect woman. Kyra drove home thinking "did I really just talked to him all night?" Kyra figured either she would run into Troy again at the bar and see what happened or that it was all in her mind and there was nothing there. The next day Troy surprised Kyra with a text message to continue the conversation and a first date was set for a couple days later.
On February 23rd we joined Kyra's parents for her dad's birthday dinner at Cheesecake Factory in Escondido. Troy had decided that was the day he was going to propose and had it all planned out. He called the restaurant the day before to set the plan in motion. He was able to reserve a table (which they don't take reservations) in a back corner so it would be semi-private. Troy also worked with Kyra's parents to ensure it would be okay to pair the proposal with Ken's birthday dinner. Knowing how important family is and wanting to include everyone, Troy even coordinated with Kyra's sister, Kendra, to Facetime in just before the proposal. Once we arrived at the restaurant for dinner, Kyra still needed to grab a card for her dad's birthday, so Troy took that as an opportunity to finalize the plans with the restaurant by sending Kyra to the store alone. Everything went normally during dinner, but things got exciting as it was time for dessert. Cheesecake was ordered and Ken's birthday cheesecake came out quickly, but Romany's order was wrong and Kyra's order was no where to be seen. We sang "Happy Birthday" and waited for the rest of the order to arrive. Romany's order came out but Kyra's was still missing in action. While all of this was happening, Kendra and Kaylee both called via FaceTime to celebrate dad (or that was what Kyra thought). Eventually, the waitress came back out with Troy's phone in her hand (recording the moment) with Kyra's Cheesecake and an engagement ring on the plate. Troy got down on one knee and after sharing he knew from the first date Kyra was "the one" he asked those 4 amazing words...Will you marry me? And the answer...of course it was YES!
