Like so many modern love stories, theirs began on Hinge. Their first date was at Foxy Loxy, a cozy coffee shop in Savannah. The funny part? Troy doesn’t even like coffee. He still ordered one to impress Katelynn… and then never took a single sip. (Yes, she noticed. And yes, she still teases him about it.) Their second date was the complete opposite—sun, sand, and saltwater. What was supposed to be just a casual beach day turned into nearly fourteen hours together. They stayed so late that they ended up watching strangers hunt for crabs by flashlight, laughing about how they couldn’t seem to say goodbye. As time went on, they discovered just how many times their paths had almost crossed before. Both lived in Maryland before Georgia, spent most of their youth one school district apart, and even overlapped at the same college. Somehow, they managed to miss each other every single time—until they both found themselves in Savannah. On that very first date, Katelynn even joked that Troy must have been a stalker with all those coincidences. Luckily, he stuck around anyway even when she wouldn't give him her phone number! They also realized they both come from big, lively families—Troy is the second of six, and Katelynn is the oldest of seven—so “loud and chaotic” has always felt like home to both of them. Looking back, it feels like fate gave them plenty of near misses, just to make the real thing that much sweeter.

On April 24, 2025, Troy pulled off the biggest surprise of all. Katelynn had just wrapped up a work conference in Washington, D.C., and thought they were heading out for a day of museums to distract Troy before a supposed surprise party for his birthday. The twist? Troy had roped his mom into convincing Katelynn that she needed to keep him busy all the while he was trying to get HER to the designated proposal location, the Lincoln Memorial under the ruse that they were meeting Troy’s brother Luke for lunch! After having to stall due to some technical errors with the camera they made their way to the reflecting pool to meet Luke. Troy stopped at the mark which was planned out on google maps for months and said “So I lied… we arent meeting Luke and the party that you think is happening tonight isnt for me its for you… got on one knee and asked “Katelynn Spingola will you marry me?” In utter disbelief Katelynn crossed her arms and started to shake her head “no” so much so that onlookers started to murmur “did she say no to him”. After what felt like an eternity of Katelynn shock wearing off she finally let him put the ring on! Followed by a brief pause for a conference call (it was a work day y’all, the grind doesn’t stop!!!) the two had a private photoshoot where Katelynn may or may not have had the proposal recreated to feature some less frozen in shock with arms crossed poses! They drove out to Troy’s parents’ house for the engagement party where family and friends awaited to welcome in the newly engaged couple! For the record, Katelynn’s family is not known for keeping secrets, so the fact that she was completely shocked is nothing short of a miracle. To this day Katelynn cannot believe that he was able to completely shock her! Safe to say, he nailed it. Now, after all the near-misses, surprises, and laughs, they can’t wait to finally celebrate with all of you as they begin this next chapter together.
