We met in the most romantic of places, Ms. Hammett’s 7th grade English class. Troy was the annoying boy who sat behind me, pulling my hair and kicking my chair. We quickly became good friends and had a tight friend group. He “dated” (you know how that goes in middle school) one of my best friends. Well, that did not last long. Troy and I would text every night until we eventually grew closer and told each other we “liked” each other and that is when things took off. We grew apart for a few, short months at the beginning of high school, but then quickly got back together and have been annoying each other ever since. We could not be more excited for this journey and are so glad each of you can be a part of it!
It was the day of Troy’s 25th birthday. He had been telling me all week that he wanted to go to a sports bar called Chalk that we frequent a lot with all of his buddies and their girlfriends to watch the NFL games that day. Every Sunday during football season Troy is glued to the television with his friends watching NFL Redzone, so this was nothing out of the ordinary for him to want to do. The morning of, Troy had told me that our close friends, Tatum and Clay, were already out and would pick us up after they got out of Church. I tried to bargain with Troy this day and tell ask him if I had to go, because honestly I didnt think I could sit there and watch football that long, and he just kept telling me “Yep, you have to go its my birthday.” Tatum and Clay came to pick us up and we left for Chalk. We parked in the back parking lot because Troy told me that one of his friends was already there and told him the front parking was full. We got out of the car to walk and it was a windy day (thanks Oklahoma) so Tatum and Clay hurried in front of us because it was so cold. We went up the back stairs of the restaurant to the patio because that’s where Troy said “all our friends were at already waiting on us.” Tatum and Clay are already up the stairs then Troy and I finally made it up. I turned the corner to see a large group of people huddled all together in the back part of the patio and remember thinking it myself, “wait what? Did I miss the part where this is a surprise birthday party for Troy?” I turned around to Troy and found him with a ring in his hand. He popped the question right there in front of all our favorite people and of course I said “yes!” We celebrated the rest of the day with good drinks and even better friends and family. It was truly one of Troy and I’s favorite days and we are excited for this new journey together.
