How it all began

30th Time's the Charm

Trey and I had a number of mutual friends throughout our years at Purdue. I had a photography business on the side, and two of my friends asked me to film clips for a short promotional video they were creating for an organization on campus. The job was pretty simple: Film a handfull of members explaining why they love Old Masters, and give them the raw footage. I spent the morning interviewing students around the engineering fountain. Most required a few takes to get the jitters out, but none so many as this Trey character, who showed up 45 minutes late and took what seemed like 30 tries to nail his (one) line. Over the next few months, I seemed to bump into Trey quite a bit... by coincidence I am sure. Eventually he told our friend, Bridget, that he had a crush on "cute camera girl," knowing full well that she would not would not keep that information to herself but for two seconds. Our first date was at Scotty's Brewhouse, which was shortly followed by two barn dances and his sister, Kara's, wedding. The Overholser's treated me like family, even having known me for only two weeks. In a surprising turn of events, I caught Kara's bouquet (by accident, I swear). As she threw it in the air, everyone around me took about three steps back. I, being in a boot under doctor's orders, was not able to move as quickly. The bouquet hit the ceiling, ricocheted down, and nailed me square in the gut. Trey looked on with wide eyes and said, "Well that's awfully presumptuous," to which I quickly retorted, "Doesn't mean I'm marrying you!" Thankfully, I did not heed that threat, because here we are, just a few days short of 4 years later, exchanging our own vows surrounded by our family and friends. Who knows... Maybe we will even be ready to make it "Facebook official" down the road someday.

The big question

How He Proposed

A while back, we had a pretty clear idea of when we would get engaged... then school and the big move out west happened, and our timeline had to adjust. In August 2018, Trey drove with me across the country to make Utah my new home. After graduating in December (woohoo!) he made his way out as well. One of the first things we bought him was a season pass to Brighton Ski Resort so he could join me on the slopes every weekend. There is no shortage of beautiful places to propose out here, but he picked the perfect one. On a gorgeous, sunny day, at the edge of the resort, with no one else in sight, Trey suggested we stop and take a picture of the view. I walked right into that one, totally clueless. Once I had gotten my perfect shot, I turned around, and there he was - on one knee, in full snow gear, holding a ring. For those of you concerned with the possibility of accidentally dropping said ring in the snow, rest assured that this was no powder day. The snow was completely packed, and the ring was safe. Most importantly, as you may have inferred... I said "yes!"
