How We Met

A Modern Day "You've Got Mail"

We met as most single 30-somethings living in a big city such as Chicago do; both sitting on our couches looking at pictures and reading what Morgan calls each others "trading cards" for our stats. We both passed the first round and made it into the draft. After swiping in the same direction we connected and that is where our love story began. On our first date, we met for a drink on a Sunday afternoon. Drinks turned into dinner; which consisted of hours of laughter and conversation. Those that know Morgan, know she doesn't ever get excited about guys, or talk about her dates...but there was something about Trey that kept a nonstop smile on her face. Being the fun loving, easy-going guy, Trey asked Morgan out on their second date, to his friend Adam's birthday, on a boat....not intimidating at all! The date could have gone either way but Morgan loved seeing Trey in his element; surrounded by friends, laughing, and with his trademark contagious smile on his face. Two dates turned into many and our relationship continued to grow. We love knowing that this is only the beginning of our love story!

The Proposal

Niagara Fall in love with you forever

August 25th is a special day for both the Potvin and Culpepper families. Ironically our parents share the same wedding anniversary! As I prepared to pop the question, there was no doubt August 25th would be the day I'd ask Morgan to marry me. We'd been talking about visiting her sister Molly and her family in Buffalo. I stealthy steered Molly to convince us the last weekend of August was best. I took a trip to “meet a co-worker” and instead drove to Lansing to ask her father for Morgan's hand in marriage. I wanted to surprise her at Niagara Falls and propose in front of our families. 8.25.18 perfectly fell on a Saturday, but the weather forecast called for afternoon rain so Morgan was pushing for a morning trip. Little did she know both sets of our parents were en route to Canada for the big proposal. I booked us on the Journey Behind the Falls, where keeping track of the six nieces and nephews was a great distraction before "the ask". After seeing the spectacular views and getting completely soaked, we took the elevator up, with me nervously hoping our parents would be hiding. I quickly steered Morgan out to the plaza in front of The Falls and said, "Morgan I love you, you are amazing, and I want to Niagara Fall in love with you forever" as I got down on one knee. Pure joy was on Morgan's face as she said "Oh my gosh is this really happening, are you for real, are you serious, is this happening....". I said "I think you're supposed to say yes". She immediately replied "YES!!!" while wiping tears from her eyes. All of Morgan's nieces and nephews ran up and gave us hugs and kisses. It was so special to share this day with our parents, who have almost 80 years of marriage between them. We were even blessed with a rainbow to celebrate the event. August 25th will always be a special day in our family.
