Thinking back to the day we met makes me laugh out loud. For starters, I was in eighth grade and Trey was a freshman in high school - I thought he was way too cool for me. Long story short, we both ended up going to Easter Retreat in April of 2010 - a weekend trip hosted by our church. During Easter Retreat there’s downtime for activities - playing in the gym, walking around the campsite, etc. Well, on this particular day, Trey & I both ended up in the gym. He was throwing a soccer ball back & forth with one of his friends & I (obliviously) walked right in the middle of them. Nevertheless, Trey smacked me in the face (full force, I might add) with a soccer ball. If you know Trey, you know he felt absolutely awful. I had a huge red mark across the side of my face & he knew it hurt. BUT, I thought he was so cute & wanted to impress him - so, I played it off like it was nothing. He apologized at least 100 times throughout the day & every time I would say “Oh, Trey it didn’t hurt at all!”. Little did he know, I was dying on the inside (of pain and embarrassment). After that, we immediately became friends & spent the remainder of that church trip hanging out & learning about Jesus together. The following years were filled with Trey & I texting on & off - always making plans to hang out or go eat at Taco Bell after school. The timing was never quite right for us, though. We went about a year without talking, besides saying “hey” in the Zachary High School hallway every now and then. My Junior year of high school I was nominated for Homecoming court. A few weeks before the dance & neither Trey nor myself had a date. However, we had been texting for a few months prior & he called me one afternoon to ask me to Homecoming. And as they say, the rest is history. Here we are, 6.5 years later, & I get to marry my middle school crush who hit me in the face with a soccer ball. God has a great way of planning out our steps in life - even if they hurt sometimes ;)
