The OG of dating apps...Match.com is where it all started. I had taken the app off of my phone for a few months and decided to reinstall it while I was at home for Thanksgiving. Once it was back on my phone, I saw a message waiting for me from this guy decked out in Nebraska gear (little did I know what I was getting myself into). I decided to respond, acknowledging that I was a bit tardy in my response (which Trey still won't let me forget...better late than never, right??) and we started chatting. Fast forward a few days later to December 2nd when Trey picked me up for dinner for our first date. I NEVER let a stranger from the internet pick me up for a date, but I just had a safe feeling from the beginning. After a wrong turn down a one way street, we made it safely to dinner where I learned that it was Trey's birthday that night!! I left that date knowing Trey was different than other guys I had met. We both had a lot going on that December so we squeezed in dates where we could. Before I went home for Christmas, Trey gave me a gift - my very first piece of Husker gear. On December 26th, Trey came to LA to visit and I showed him all my favorite places in town. That night we went to Terranea and made it "official".
It all started on our annual Reams family Hawaii trip. I figured that everyone anticipated a proposal there but I had other plans. So I decided to keep Allie on her toes (aka I was actually focused on the golf I’d play & handicapping the upcoming Kentucky Derby). Instead I used that trip to ask her Dad if I could marry her. Little did I know that it would be the most awkward & terrifying conversation I’d ever have. I had talked with him numerous times with no issue. Early in the trip I had him one-on-one. Heart’s pumping & I buckle & freeze. Who knows what I said. Later in the week I know I’m running out of time so it’s now or never. We played a game of bocce & I had him alone for a good 15 minutes. So what do I do? I wait until 14:50 to gag my question out to him. Of course he said yes, but the torture of asking him is something I never anticipated. Real smooth, Trey. A month later we were going to one of our favorite places, La Quinta, with my family. We had spent a couple weekends in the desert & really grew closer out there. I knew this had to be it. I felt it was a perfect time right before we all ventured to dinner. I walked over to my brother’s casita to see if he & his girlfriend could capture the proposal. The awkwardness sat back in. I paced around while talking to Sarah as she & Michael were getting ready. I was talking to her about anything that came to mind besides asking to take pictures. “Sarah, you think LeBron beats the Celtics tonight?” Poor Sarah. I finally asked if they could help me out. Minutes later, I walked Allie out of our casita where I paused & simply said “Allie” before she let out a loud noise as she knew what was happening. I had no idea tears could start flowing that quickly. Lucky for me, I was calm & collected as I laid out some suave words before getting on one knee to propose. The pressure was behind me & the fun had just begun. I did it! We did it! And now here we are ready to celebrate.
We are so excited to share our special day with you. We hope that you will enjoy your time in San Diego and get to see why we love this city. This website has a lot of information (hotel/travel info, timeline of events, things to do around town, and more) so please take a look around! We can't wait to celebrate! The sunset picture below is the first picture we ever took together. :)
