Tori and Trevor initially met in high school. They shared a couple classes during Trevor's Senior year and Tori's Junior year. Trevor graduated high school a year ahead of Tori, but they kept in contact over social media. Tori had plans to move to Virginia for college, so she didn't ask Trevor to be her Senior Prom date despite her wanting to. At this time, Trevor was attending the local community college and working. Complications occurred with Tori's plans to go to college in Virginia, and she announced she was going to attend the local community college online. Trevor saw this announcement, and asked for her number over social media. The two immediately began texting for long hours though out the days, bonding over Journey, Queen, and ice cream. Over that summer break they went on several dates, and started their next year of community college together as boyfriend and girlfriend.
After attending the same community college together for the first couple years of their relationship, it was time for Tori and Trevor to continue their college careers; where ever that may take them. Trevor, being one year older and ahead of Tori, was the first to leave to a university. He pursued an English bachelors from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. Meanwhile, Tori finished her last year of community college in Brentwood. That is over a 500 mile drive away! Tori and Trevor would plan one weekend a month where one of them drove/flew to the other for a visit. Those weekends were never long enough. The next year, Tori continued her education at UC Santa Barbara to obtain a bachelors in Marine Biology. They were now over 800 miles apart! Needless to say, it was difficult to plan trips to visit, but they were dedicated to visiting each other at least once a month. Trevor enjoyed leaving the rain and cold of Oregon to visit the warm beaches of sunny Santa Barbara. While Tori was happy to see Trevor... even in the Winter of Oregon... she was always cold. Trevor graduated from the University of Oregon in 2019 and began working in the Silicon Valley of the Bay Area. He was now a much more drivable distance from his love in Santa Barbara who was finishing her last year of college. However, Tori's Senior year of college was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. She graduated in 2020, taking her last couple quarters online at home in Brentwood.
Tori and Trevor moved in together the Summer of 2020. They lived near the veterinary clinic Tori was working at in the West Contra Costa County. Trevor was working from home which gave him the privacy to plan the perfect proposal. Trevor was secretly going to jewelry stores to shop for rings while also communicating with immediate family and close friends of the upcoming surprise. Trevor suggested to Tori they go camping in Monterey (one of their favorite places to visit.) They had been planning this weekend get-away together for about a month. Meanwhile, Trevor was gathering 15 people to drive to Monterey on a Friday evening. The weekend had finally come. Trevor drove them out in a borrowed 1972 Chevy C10 family truck. They went to their camp site and relaxed for a bit. This gave time to the surprise guests to drive out from around the Bay Area. Trevor had a group chat with the guests, but kept it muted. He would covertly text the group which beach they were travelling to, the issue? Trevor had not yet decided on what beach to propose at. He wanted to go in person and feel each beach out, but he was racing the Sun. Luckily, the second beach they found was deemed perfect. This beach, was Asilomar Beach. Trevor and Tori explored the tide-pools of the beach. While Tori was excitedly picking up snails and other sea creatures, Trevor was texting the group chat. He eventually led Tori to a rock at the edge of the water with a hill behind them with a walking trail on it. This was the spot. Trevor sat his back to the water so he could see the road and beach where the guests would arrive. He had Tori sit facing the ocean to achieve the opposite effect. This was easy as somehow, almost predestined, there was a raft of otters (Tori's favorite) in the water near them. However, now that she was facing him, he could no longer text the group chat. Ring in pocket, he improvised a meditation session. He had Tori focus on the sound of the waves while walking her through meditation. This got her to close her eyes and become less focused on what he was doing. He saw the group of guests gathering at the road and walking over. He used a lot of silent gestures and frantic arm waves to get them to come to stand on the hill overlooking them. Once the guests were all gathered on the hill above them, Trevor started pulling Tori out of the meditation (which had worked very well somehow). They looked at the ocean for a second, then Trevor suggested they take a selfie with their back to the sea. He thought Tori would notice the group of 15 people with phones out only about 80ft away during this picture and he would capture the moment... but she didn't notice them at all! In fact, she turned around to continue appreciating the sea! Maybe the meditation worked a little too well... Trevor, quite panicked at this point, said "Hey, look at all those weird people taking pictures of us." Tori spun around, and gave her friends and family a hard stare down. It took her about 3 seconds of staring before she realized who these people were. When she turned around, she saw Trevor on one knee, foot hanging off into the sea, opening a small box containing, a ring. To this day, some people claim they didn't say anything to each other. Some say the communicated with misty eyed nods and vocal noises. Whatever they did, they knew what they were doing. They embraced with shaking knees and teary eyes. Trevor placed the ring on Tori's hand. Then the two walked up the hill to celebrate with their family; who was also teary eyed. Who wouldn't be after seeing that?
