Estes Park is located at ~7,600 feet above sea level and altitude sickness is a common ailment that can strike anyone at any time. Staying hydrated and giving yourself a day or two to acclimate before participating in strenuous activity is the best advice to avoid feeling crummy. You can read about the signs and symptoms of altitude sickness here: https://eph.org/know-the-signs-of-altitude-sickness/. If you start to feel ill, the best cure is to travel to a lower elevation. Bring lots of layers (including hat, gloves, rain jacket) - especially if you plan to hike/spend time outdoors. Estes Park is typically beautiful/bordering on hot in late August with cooler evenings. Daily afternoon thunderstorms may also occur late into the summer season. That said, higher altitudes can get snow and really cold/windy at any time of the year. Have clothes that are ready for anything even if going for a day hike.
We're saying "I do" next to St. Vrain Creek in Allenspark, CO. Anyone who wants to attend the ceremony is welcome - we also fully realize asking visitors to hike up/down after just arriving from out of state is a big ask, so there's no pressure or expectation for everyone to make it to the ceremony. If you want to pace your activity on the big day, we'll be happy to catch up with everyone at the reception. The ceremony will be short, but we encourage folks to bring a camp chair if wanting to take a seat. To get to the river, you hike downhill approximately 0.5 miles over an old dirt road and then social trail by the riverside. Of course, to get back to the car, one must reverse the trip and hike uphill to get out. Sunscreen, a decent pair of walking shoes/hiking boots, and a chair if desired are recommended for the ceremony. If rain is in the forecast, we'll provide some umbrellas.
For many years when Paige and Trevor worked as seasonal employees at Rocky Mountain National Park, Trevor hosted a "Prom" themed party at Summer House. We haven't hosted one since becoming "adults" with full time/permanent positions, but are excited to bring Prom out of retirement for our wedding night afterparty. Since the theme of this Prom is "Wedding", we encourage anyone attending to wear their best "Wedding" dress. This could be (and is actually encouraged to be) a thrift store find. Of course, attire isn't required for entry, but there will be a prize for "best dressed" Prom King/Queen!
Summer House is a cabin built by Trevor's grandfather Bill Moeller in 1959/60. It's been a summer hangout for Trevor's family since then, and generations of Moellers/Cullens have enjoyed visiting and spending time relaxing in the mountains. The address for Summer House is 499 Lab Rd, Allenspark, CO 80510. It's the last house on a windy dirt road and can be somewhat difficult to navigate to, so the road will be clearly signed to make it all the way back! The road is dirt and bumpy in spots, but a regular sedan can make it back to the cabin without any trouble. Just make sure you respect the neighbors along the way and drive slowly. We're very grateful to be able to share this place with you all over the course of our wedding weekend. Big thanks to the Moellers for sharing this space with everyone!
