Nina was stationed on Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC to a Comms (Communications) Unit with 2nd MLG CLR-27. Trevor came to the unit around the end of June, but didnāt have to report in until July 1st. On July 1st, 2019, Trevor was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and happened to be the new guy in the Networking platoon. We happened to first cross paths when Nina congratulated Trevor on his promotion, as thatās something the entire platoon did after someone is newly promoted. Shortly afterwards, the platoon ended up being relieved for a short period of time, possibly for some chow (lunch). Trevor happened to be in the smoke pit and Nina ended up walking over there as well. We both started having a simple conversation of who we are, where weāre from, and how long weāve been in. Come to find out we had a friend in common and Nina ended up FaceTiming that friend. Our friend in common, was excited that we both met and was happy to see both of us on the call. We ended the call with laughter and smiles on our faces and since then, itās felt like weāve known each other for a lifetime. That moment of having a random friend in common, pretty much bonded us from the start and we became great friends from there. The rest is history š
We decided to take a vacation and celebrate our birthdays together in Asheville, NC (FINALLY)! We stayed in this beautiful cabinet (with a hot tub š) located in Candler, NC. The trip was amazing! We ate a ton of food, went to a lot of different places, but overall we got to enjoy some quality time together. Trevor ended up finding a hiking trail called āMount Mitchell Trailā, which gets you to the highest point on the East Coast! The hike, according to Google and other reviews online, was supposed to be about 3.5 miles and take a total of 6 hoursā¦. Letās just say that was a lie! We started off hiking with smiles, excited to do something so cool together. To make a long story real short, it rained on us about 4 times, we were soaking wet pretty much the entire time, the trail was so slippery, and it just felt like the ātortureā was never going to end. 5 and a half hours later, 7.96 miles in, and over 1,600 calories burned, we finally made it to the top. We were cold, miserable, and agreed to never do that again š! Thankfully for us, we packed ourselves a nice lunch. French bread, sandwich meat, cheese, and a few condiments! Letās just say, there wasnāt too much talking going on. We waited for the area to clear out from people walking around and taking pictures. Trevor went to set up his camera to āsnapā our pictures and Nina wanted to get it over with. As we finished up with our photo, Nina began to walk away and Trevor slightly pulled her arm. As she turned around, he dropped down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage ā¤ļø
