About Huron Substation
Built in 1906, this cultural monument treasure housed equipment to convert high-voltage alternating current supplied by the Edison company to the 600 volts direct current used by the Los Angeles Railway Yellow Cars.
After the Los Angeles streetcar system was abandoned in the 1960’s, the substation took on a series of industrial uses, including a welding shop, a manufacturing plant, an event space, and now a filming location.
The original brickwork, scorched by a fire in the 1980’s, beamed ceilings, arched windows, and dramatic wooden staircase give this relic undeniable character and charm. There is no place like it in the world.
