If you went to Milwaukee but didn't visit the Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM), did you even really visit? Come for internationally renowned Santiago Calatrava’s grandiose entryway. Stay for the rich collection of awe-inspiring art. With more than 300,000 works of art in a variety of mediums, prepare to wander through ancient artifacts, thought-provoking installations and sculptures and the soft, buttery colors of impressionism. Fun Fact: Elly visited the MAM many times as a child before the Calatrava was constructed, but Trevor only knows it as the way it looks now!
From majestic dinos to beautiful butterflies to the spooky "Streets of Old Milwaukee", the Public Museum has it all! As a child, Elly was fascinated by dinosaurs so enjoyed looking at the dinosaur displays, but her sister Gwen was terrified of them!
Milwaukee's favorite local coffee roaster since 1993! They also have free tours on Sundays at noon! Elly worked at Stone Creek Coffee for several years both as a cafe barista as well as the Employee Care Coordinator at the Factory HQ. Elly and Trevor have gone on many coffee dates here. Trevor favors the classic cappuccino while Elly prefers iced americanos, but they agree that the Monkey Danish is the best pastry. Don't take our word for it - see for yourself!
Can't visit Milwaukee without drinking beer! Lakefront Brewery has been a Milwaukee staple since 1987. Elly and Trevor frequented the beer hall when they were still Milwaukee residents. We also recommend the brewery tour - beer and jokes are included!
Zarletti is a fine dining northern Italian restaurant located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. Executive chef and owner Brian C. Zarletti focuses on creating regional Italian cuisine inspired by lessons learned in his grandmother’s kitchen and on his extensive travels in Italy. Elly and Trevor went on their first Valentine’s Day date to Zarletti! This was before they had introduced each other to their families, but hilariously, Elly’s mom and sister, Gwen and Cindy, decided to go for a downtown walk around the time of the reservation, and spied on them during their date! Since Zarletti is a family favorite, they were impressed that Trevor took Elly here for their first Valentine’s Day.
Located in the heart of the vibrant Third Ward, Café Benelux celebrates the unique culture of Lowlands Europe with a massive, award-winning Belgian bier selection, a full from-scratch menu, and Milwaukee’s most unique rooftop patio. Benelux may or may not have started Milwaukee’s reputation as a “brunch city”, but it certainly adds to it either way. Their mussels and frites are always an obvious choice, but we also recommend their chicken and waffles, or liege waffles for a decadent breakfast! Also sit on the roof, or on the sidewalk tables if the weather is nice - soak up that Milwaukee sun!
